The Fashionable Side of Fundraising

Cupcake Josie

This past August third, Cupcake went for another stroll down the local catwalk. The reason we broke out those glittered striped TOM's you ask? The Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Santa Rosa hosted local boutiques in a fashion show to benefit the Children's Museum of Sonoma County.

When I arrived on scene, I walked into a cloud of glitter and hair spray. The girls donned perfect curls and the boys enjoyed some serious drama effects from their colored chalk highlights; Everyone was being glamorized. I caught a few of the kid's who couldn't believe they looked so glamorous peek in mirrors, admiring their reflection.

This was my first fashion show and it is one thing to recognize that the clothes are cute and trendy, but quite another to see them in motion! The kids were twirling, swishing and posing. There was a sparkle in their eyes and a smile on each face as they left the dressing room. You know that feeling when the outfit you just slipped into makes you feel like a million bucks? It was visible in the confident walk of each child as they made their trip down the runway.

We had asked the kids to try and stay out of sight of the crowd as much as possible. "It's suppose to be a surprise," I told them. Little did I know what good hiders they there! I spent a lot of the pre-runway time just trying to find them behind doors and in play tents. "Am I doing a good job hiding?" They asked as I found each of them.

The girls strutted their stuff on the runway, feeling fabulous in looks by Mimi & Maggie, Tea, Mayoral, Petit Lem, and many more. Our little guys were looking equally as fabulous in clothes by Appaman, Fore!! Axel & Hudson, and Tea, to name a few.

The backstage at a fashion show is usually filled with energy and excitement. It was much the same on this Saturday as everyone lined up to walk their first looks. There was some trepidation, but the crowd was warm and welcoming, and the kid's confidence was steadily built. Soon after our little Cupcakes were gracing the floor with style and conviction.

Overall it was wonderful day. It's always a great feeling when you know that kids had a great time, and is especially satisfying to know the overall cause will go to create more wonderful childhood memories.

Above is a peek of some wonderful first looks!
